Pain Relief for Donkeys 21 Sep 2009

Nicki Grint is a veterinary surgeon who specialises in anaesthesia and pain management. She also has a soft spot for donkeys, and is delighted to be able to combine these two passions when she embarks on a three year PhD at the University of Bristol to investigate how donkeys signal to us that they are in pain and how pain killing drugs (analgesics) can be best used to help them.

Nicki says 'We are looking  to learn from donkey owners about their experiences of the signs of pain seen in donkeys.  We really hope that owners will be able to find the time to fill in a questionnaire because they spend a large amount of time caring for their animals and should be better able to pick up subtle signs of pain than vets who only see a snap-shot of the animals  behaviour'  This will be available as a download here or you can email donkey-phd@bris.ac.uk for a copy.

A Donkey Tale !! 15 Sep 2009

Whilst visiting South Wales recently I was told the strangest tale and the most imaginative sales pitch I have heard  - that anyone purchasing donkeys would be exempt from Council Tax !!
Wonderful though this suggestion may be it is most definitely not the case so please do not be persuaded otherwise.
The moral of this tall donkey's tale - buy your donkey for the right reasons and from a reliable source.
