It is illegal to sell any equine without a current and LEGAL passport. 'LEGAL' means it must have all the mandatory pages including Section 1X, the declaration of Medicinal Treatments, and the document must be in the name of the PRESENT OWNER, not the last one or even the one before that, and Trading Standards are on the case. The passport must be transferred into the current owner's name within 28 days of acquisition, regardless of whether they intend to sell the animal on or not. Better to pay the £10 or £15 transfer fee than the £5000 fine!
No passport! then be aware that after1st July every animal whether a foal born in 2009 or any other that has not previously had a passport will require to be microchipped and the code recorded and verified by a Veterinary Surgeon before a passport can be issued. Act now - download an application form and instructions on how to complete it correctly from the legal documents option or email info@donkeybreedsociety.co.uk putting passport application in the subject bar, stating whether it is required for a horse or a donkey.
