Founded in 1967, the Donkey Breed Society seeks to encourage a fuller and more active life for those donkeys who are much loved family pets or companions to other animals.
We believe that a donkey is not just an ornament for your paddock and that a busy donkey is invariably a happier donkey.
Our Aims
- We provide advice on buying and keeping donkeys
- We aim to improve the quality and conformation of donkeys by advocating careful and selective breeding, to which end we maintain stud book and ancillary registers.
- We encourage and support showing and driving classes for donkeys at major agricultural shows and local specialist events, allowing the general public to see donkeys at their best.
- We encourage children to become interested in donkeys.
- We encourage non donkey owners to take an informed view of this special equine through our publications, and donkey owners to gain confidence through the experiences of others.
- To provide training days for donkey management, showing and driving, to encourage and help those in need of it.

Joining the Donkey Breed Society gives you the opportunity to meet like-minded people: those who have the best interests and welfare of the donkey at heart. Our members come from all age groups, children to pensioners; it is not necessary to actually own a donkey, just to have a love of them is excuse enough; we aim to be a friendly society providing a full range of publications, activities and events to interest everyone. |

To join, you can either download an application form, print it, complete the details and mail it back to us with your cheque for the correct amount made payable to the Donkey Breed Society -- or you can join right now by using the online application form and pay using your credit or debit card.
Would you like to renew your existing membership online, using your credit or debit card?
An existing membership can be renwed by using the online application form link above and inserting your membership number where requested.
Donkey Breed Society Membership is an annual committment, renewable on 1st February, however members joining later in the year will receive copies of all the publications for that year and those joining after 1st November will find their membership extends to benefit for a full further year.
