WEST REGIONAL REPORT FOR THE AGM 2008
There are seven areas in the region, Staffordshire, Warwickshire/West Midlands/Worcestershire, Oxfordshire, Bristol and South Gloucestershire, North Gloucestershire, Shropshire and Cheshire, and Herefordshire all with Area Representatives.
In the Region there are 241 full members and 28 junior/student members, and there are over 400 donkeys, including a growing number of miniature donkeys.
Newsletters
Over 215 newsletters were sent out three times during the year to all members and other interested people, edited by Claire Harper - the Area Rep. for Warwickshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire. These newsletters were received well.
Activities.
Within the region there were three county shows - Three Counties and two at Thame, all of which were well supported, and two donkey shows - Herefordshire and Longney , both of these were very well supported and organised, despite the poor weather. The National Donkey Weekend at Rodbaston was again a success, this year being organised by a committee.
This year there were a large number of events organised by the Area Representatives, these are too numerous to mention individually, but sufficient to say that they were all supported well; it was good to see so many new members taking part. None of these activities would have taken place without the hard work of the organisers, my thanks to them all, but especially to Claire Harper who was responsible for many of the events and also for editing and distributing the newsletters.
Claire is taking over the work of the Regional Representative from November this year, I wish her all the best in her new role and I am sure the Area Reps will support her well.

WEST REGION REPORT FOR THE AGM 2007
There are seven areas, Staffordshire, Warwickshire/West Midlands/Worcestershire, Oxfordshire, Bristol and South Gloucestershire, North Gloucestershire, Shropshire and Cheshire, and Herefordshire all with area representatives.
In the Region there are 232 full members and 19 junior/student members, and there are over 390 donkeys.
In December 2006 and in July 207 we sent out over 215 newsletters to all members and other interested people, edited by Claire Harper ? the area rep. for Warwickshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire. The newsletter was received with good feedback.
Within the region there were three county shows - The Three Counties and two at Thame, all of which were well supported, and three donkey shows - Island Farm, Herefordshire, Longney , all these were very well supported and organised, despite the poor weather. The National Donkey Weekend at Rodbaston was cancelled due the restriction of movement of all animals under the foot and mouth emergency rules. Because of this cancellation a number of local gatherings took place on that weekend.
This year we celebrated the 40th.birthday of the DBS and during the year the following events (amongst others) took place:-
In December 2006 the Christmas lunch was held at Cheryl Browning's farm.
Robin and Julie Boyce demonstrated how to prepare your donkey for the show ring in April.
In May an equine dentist day was held at North Littleton.
In June Cheryl Browning held an Awards day, at her farm.
In July Sheila Bell invited a crowd of people to her lovely cottage in the woods for the annual lunch, much appreciated.
On Sept 23rd. a celebration for the National Driving Day was held at Peter and Angela Scales home.
A donkey stall was well supported at the Malvern Autumn Show in September.
In October a Donkey Bombproofing Day was held.
Jean Fooks has started a donkey club for the juniors in her area, this has held a number of enthusiastic meetings.
None of these activities would have taken place without the hard work of the organisers, my thanks to them all, but especially to Claire Harper who was responsible for many of the events and also for editing and distributing the news letters.

A very enjoyable mid summer Luncheon at the home of Sheila Bell.

My thanks to all the organisers of the above activities and to all the Area Representatives for the work and support they have given over the last 12 months.
Ted Fooks, West Region delegate to Council
Every Wednesday
is Donkey Day at the home of the Worcestershire, Warwickshire and West Midlands area representative, Claire Harper. Any DBS member is welcome to come along with their own donkey and a packed lunch and take part in whatever activity is going on ? maybe long reining, maybe a picnic, may be just messing around.
