Donkey Breed Society Tests

These tests were originally devised for our junior members, however we feel most will be of benefit to all. The Elementary, Bronze, Silver and Gold tests are to be taken in progressive order. Please apply to the DBS Secretary if you wish to take any of these tests, for which certificates and rosettes are awarded.

TEST

OBJECTIVE

INTRODUCTORY (minimum age 6 years) To get to know your donkey
ELEMENTARY (minimum age 8 years) To learn how to look after a donkey
BRONZE (minimum age 10 years) To provide a basic understanding of your donkey
To achieve confidence in handling your donkey
SILVER (minimum age 13 years) To achieve a greater understanding of your donkey
To gain practical experience of its care and management
GOLD (minimum age 16 years) To provide a thorough knowledge of the donkey

These tests may be taken as appropriate:

OBJECTIVE

RIDING 1 - BEGINNERS (Juniors only according to weight/height limitations) To work, exercise and use your donkey correctly

To know how to ride your donkey correctly
To gain confidence and balance
To enjoy your donkey

RIDING 2 - ADVANCED (Juniors only according to weight/height limitations) To be working towards developing a balanced seat independent of reins
to understand elementary aids and be able to apply them
DRIVING 1 (minimum age 12 years) To obtain a basic understanding of the donkey in single harness
DRIVING 2 (to be taken not less than 12 months after passing Driving Test 1) To obtain a greater understanding and knowledge of driving your donkey with the further aim of driving competently to a higher standard
FIRST AID not be taken before the Bronze Test To be aware of the health of your donkey
To know how to treat your donkey when unwell
DRESSAGE To train your donkey to be obedient and willing
PROJECT BADGE (minimum age 10) (although younger members may start collecting/preparing for their project) To enjoy donkeys even if you do not have a donkey of your own
